Word Sorting: A Phonics Activity


Word sorting is phonics instruction and practice for reading and spelling at all levels.

Students who could benefit from word sorting include those with:

  • Reading disabilities
  • Dyslexia
  • Decoding issues
  • For students who can read at a higher level in context than can read individual words or spell individual words

Others ways to use word sorting include: 

  • Introduction of concepts
  • Practice with concepts
  • Remediation of concepts
  • Discovery learning
